Sake Search Review
[Brewery]
Kitaro Jungin is produced by Chiyomusubi Sake Brewer, which is located in Sakaiminato city of Tottori prefecture. It became famous when “Ge Ge Ge no Nyobo,” one of the NHK morning dramas, was broadcasted a quite while ago. The city is also the hometown of Shigeru Mizuki, a Japanese cartoonist of “Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro.”
Many “Yokai”(monsters) statues are displayed on the road, “Mizuki Shigeru road,” which is the 800 meters long, stretching toward the East from Sakaiminato station to the Honcho arcade.
This sake was created in collaboration with the cartoonist partly because the brewery is on the road.
[Product]
This label of the sake bottle has the phrase “ I went to Shigeru Mizuki road” and the dawing of Shigeru Mizuki’s Manga characters, Kitaro and Medama no Oyaji in travelling clothes.
The back of the bottle also has the message, “Kawaii oyako nya tabi saseyo…sogeda” meaning that spare the rod and spoil the parents and children(a spoof of a Japanese proverb, “spare the rod and spoil the children).
It is suitable ss a souvenir when you visit Sakiminato city.
[Taste]
The aroma is subtle.
The taste is relatively sweet but refreshing with a light texture.
It is an easy-drinking sake because the alcohol is not sharp.
The back label indicates the unfiltered sake. However, there are no sake lees in it.
It is refreshing and light to the extent that I didn’t feel any alcohol.
Even people who are not keen on sake will enjoy this drink because of the mildness, which is identical to Kitaro’s character in the third series of the animation.
That said, bear in mind that it contains 16% alcohol. Overdrinking makes you drunk.
[Food pairing]
“Tobei ”
Tobei, a Tofu preserved in Moromi (fermentation mash), is produced by Tobei Inc.
The texture is tender like cheese and slightly sticky.
The taste is similar to Nara-zuke, vegetables pickled in sake lees, but
the feeling of tofu is not overwhelming. For more information: https://nihonshu-search.com/chiyomusubi_kitaro_medama_konaki_2/
When paring with this drink, you will feel the quality of soybeans. The sake and Tobei is a perfect combination. The sweetness and umami take it to another level.
As the flavour is subtle, it works well with the light sake.
