Lunch at Golden Cross Country Club

Good evening!
Today’s report is about a lunch at “Golden Cross Country Club” in Chiba Prefecture.

I was in a golf club when I was a university student, so I have a taste for golf a bit. And I went to a “golf course” yesterday (April15th) after about 2 years.

Why did I use “ “?

Actually, gastritis attacked me the week before, and furthermore, I had a fit of gout 2 days before the golf day. Maybe that was because too much working everyday had harmed my health.

I thought that I should have stopped going for golf as my gastritis hadn’t disappeared yet, but I couldn’t help because I was in charge of arranging a rental car and driving in a big group of people this time. I decided to be just a driver, not playing golf.

What was I doing while everyone else was enjoying golf?

They said me to join sitting on a cart, but that would be too boring so I went out for a drive.

I had lunch with my group at least at this “Golden Cross Country Club” as mentioned in the title.

Today’s story is about the lunch.

I’d like to introduce how the drive was in another time later, so please look forward to it!

Now, the “lunch at Golden Cross Country Club”. We had it at the restaurant on the second floor of the clubhouse.

It looked like this.

The outside of the clubhouse was brick wall, and the restaurant inside was designed with brickwork. The left side of the photo above was a nice relaxing area like this.

We had a seat on the innermost seats of the restaurant.

Let’s check the menu first.

Everything looked good.
This restaurant seemed to put an effort into lunch seeing a curry supervised by Nakamuraya Shinjuku in the menu.

It also showed the calorie of each dish, and “lady’s set” was low calories. The people who are on a diet or women would like the menu.

Well, all the ladies who I went with, however, ordered not only the pork loin tonkatsu (pork cutlet) plate (which was 1227kcal), but also beer and some snacks like fried potatoes.

I wanted to eat curry, but considering driving afterwards and my stomach’s condition, I chose an ice tea and a milder menu than curry. I thought that vegetable was better, and the place was a famous production area of “筍“ (takenoko, bamboo baby), so I took “Chinese fried pork and ‘旬’ vegetables”.

Do you notice a strange thing?

Yes, I made a mistake^^;
“旬” (means “the best season”) and “筍” look similar, but they are different^^;;
The dish was different from what I expected^^;;;

Maybe I was too tired from work……

Well, the food came in after a while.

The pork and vegetables are sizzling in a hot stone bowl.

To tell the truth, I don’t like vegetable’s white and hard parts such as cabbage cores because they are too hard when they are not cut enough, and sometimes taste like medicine. I picked up the cores carefully to put them on the surface of the hot stone bowl to cook. I also cooked the meat more.

Let’s try it!

Even though the cut was thick, it was soft and the gravy came out all over in my mouth with deep flavor when I had a chew.

It went great with Chinese miso and rice.

I completed the meal with a Chinese almond jelly for dessert.

It might be a bit strange to you to write about a lunch at a golf course, but this blog’s policy is “do not mind too much”.

It should be even interesting if I make a new category or a special number of “meals at golf course”!

But the most important thing is that this web site is for searching restaurants where you can drink Japanese sake.
So I looked for sake in the menu, just in case.

There they have. “Umeichirin” and “Iwanoi”.

Both are made in Chiba Prefecture, and the makers are located in Sanmu City and Onjuku Town which are 30 – 50 minutes by car from Chonan Town where “Golden Cross Country Club” is.

It’s nice for people who came from outside that the restaurant has the local sake because that can be one of entertainment for visitors.

By the way, every time I go to golf courses, I wonder if clubhouses in foreign countries also have alcohol like Japanese ones.

It might be because I’m too weak, but I always get sick if I play after drinking.

On the other hand, it’s true that there are some people who drink beer at lunch or even while playing calling their beer “power water” or “energy drink”, and they make better scores than that of without beer.

I think Japan is a country of freedom.

In conclusion, I’d like to show you a photo of the first field near the clubhouse.

As their web site says “evergreen”, it was a nice course of beautiful green.

Cherry trees were blooming beautifully to make scenery April-like.

I want to try again some time to enjoy golf more, not caring about my duties too much.
