Enjoyed Early Summer-like Nostalgia at “Obako”, Shinkoiwa

Good evening.
Thank you very much for your visiting this blog!
Today’s report is about another restaurant in Shinkoiwa as well as the last article.

After “Showa Roman” which I introduced in last blog, my senior ex-colleague and I went to a different restaurant because my ex-colleague’s junior in university and his wife were going to join us.
The restaurant was “Yakitori Obako”.

This restaurant is in a residential area in the south of Shinkoiwa Station. That area has many houses which reminds me of my childhood (about 1970s to 1980s), and the restaurant stands naturally like this.

“Showa Roman” was “retro”, and this one was “nostalgia”.
As well as the outside appearance,

The inside was also nostalgic.

The photo above is floor seats, but they also had counter and table seats which were of course nostalgic.

This is the menu.

My ex-colleague was a regular customer of this restaurant, so he ordered what he usually have there.
The first one was Japanese pickles.

And asparaguses.

Many scenes of my childhood appeared in my mind, and I felt nostalgia in this restaurant. I guess that was because it was only about a year since my father died of cancer.
It was rather hot on that day, but wind went through where we were and we felt cooler. When I was a child, as well as the wind at this restaurant, there was this kind of wind in summer, and I remembered summer dinner in those days of boiled green vegetables such as snow peas and kidney beans with mayonnaise like these asparaguses.
I didn’t have any special feelings about those time, or it was rather a bad memory for me until around 20 years old. Now, I’ve done more than a half of my life, and experienced loss of my family who had always been there. My sense of value and social position have changed, so the memory look beautiful and I miss it a lot now.

While I was thinking such things, the couple arrived. It was a small celebration party of their marriage.
There are many happy news like marriage and childbirth around me recently.

We ordered the next drinks.
We decided to share a bottle of Nihonshu.
It’s summer, so we ordered a cold one.

“Takashimizu, Tokubetsu Honjozo, Namachozo-shu”.
The label is well designed to express summer, and it also matched the atmosphere of the restaurant. The taste was dry which is the characteristic of “Takashimizu”, and it also had deep, but clear flavor. I thought that it was good with foods such as

Yakitori (grilled chicken on sticks),

Nikomi (Japanese stewed foods). This sake makes inside of mouth fresh after having such thick flavored foods.
The yakitori were big pieces with rich fat flavor.
The stew was miso taste, and the entails which absorbed the miso soup were very nice.

I met the couple for the first time, but I had a very good time even though I’m a shy man not only because the couple was nice people, but also because the restaurant’s atmosphere was like a home in countryside and the foods were simple and homely. After this “Obako”, we moved to my ex-colleague’s home and had 2-hour drinking there and then went home.

This restaurant brought me nostalgia and memory which I can never go back. What to feel should depend on the person, but it was a warm and comfortable place any way.
I recommend you to visit there one time if you have chance!

It’s our great pleasure if this article is helpful for you.
