Coincidence of Kara-age Lunch at “Toritomo”, Kamiya-cho

Good evening.
Thank you very much for reading this blog.

Today’s about “Toritomo” in Kamiya-cho.
On that day, I was a little relaxed because my project at work was almost finished and the weather was nice, so I decided to go for lunch to Kamiya-cho.
I browsed some restaurants and found this “Toritomo” which looked nice to me.

See? Doesn’t it look good?
It was past 1:30 in the evening.

Of course, special menu was finished, and there were only Oyako-Don (cooked chicken and egg on rice), Kara-age (Japanese deep fried chicken) set, and Hitsumabushi (chopped grilled chicken on rice).
I personally think that Kara-age tells the quality of the restaurant which serves chicken dishes as their main menu. I don’t know this is correct, but I think that the quality of chicken meat and the restaurant’s technique or policy appear in such simple dish. This is why I usually choose Kara-age when I don’t have other special things to order at chicken cuisine restaurants.

A man who seemed a manager said to me that it would take time, but it wasn’t a problem for me to have some extra lunch break, so I ordered Kara-age lunch. (I noticed later that it was restaurant who wanted to finish early…^^;.)
Anyway, my lunch arrived earlier than he said. This is it.

???
It’s “Fried Chicken” rather than Kara-age…. (In Japan, “Fried Chicken” means deep fried chicken of western-style.) More than that, it looked like lunch at “Tosaka” in Roppongi which I introduced in a previous blog a lot.
Maybe the things had changed a lot while I was packed in home in poor days……. I started this lunch thinking about something like that.

The skin outside was crispy and nice.
I liked this Kara-age better than “Tosaka” as the texture was better to me. The meat was cooked perfectly and juicy with rich flavor.
Beneath the chicken was,

A lot of grated daikon radish.
Let’s have chicken with this daikon now.

It was flavored with ponzu vinegar (Japanese sauce made of soy sauce and citrus juice). It was normal ponzu, not like “Tosaka” ponzu which was a bit unique.
And now, the soup.

This soup was also very nice with chicken stock flavor.
I finished this lunch while wondering what kind of food they serve in dinner time.

I left the restaurant thinking that this restaurant should have kept studying and trying for improvement like Tosaka, and if so, this restaurant would be a good one which lives for a long time.

By the way, I went to Toritomo 2 weeks before writing this blog, and I checked Toritomo’s website to write this blog and to put the data in the database.
I found a page “What is ‘Toritomo’?” in their website. I said in my heart, what’s that?

“ ‘Toriyaki Toritomo’ is a restaurant which was established by ‘Tosaka’ aiming to become more friendly for guests as a restaurant where they can enjoy real yakitori (grilled chicken on stick).”, they said.

Well, I got it!

It’s our great pleasure if this article is helpful for you.
