Miyazaki-nize! Miyazaki foods at “Doremi” in Yakuin and “Sentoku Junmai”

Good day!
This is a report by a special correspondent “N”.

Today I’d like to introduce a place where you can enjoy Miyazaki’s local sake and chicken foods!

“Miyazaki-nize Dining” Doremi

The restaurant which I introduce you today is an Izakaya restaurant “Miyazaki-nize Dining Doremi”.
The shop manager is a person from Nichinan City in Miyazaki Prefecture.
They mainly serve Miyazaki’s local foods and dishes which are made with ingredients from Miyazaki.

It’s very popular among people who were raised in Miyazaki and search for their hometown’s tastes, others who want to eat Miyazaki’s foods again which they enjoyed on a trip, or people who met Miyazaki’s good foods there for the first time.

In my case, I used to work in Miyazaki.
I sometimes feel like eating the foods.

It locates in Yakuin, Chuo-ku in Fukuoka City, which is just near a busy street of Fukuoka, Tenjin.
There are many popular restaurants and shops such as Izakaya, sweets shops, clothes shops, and leather goods shops.
It’s also popular as a commuter town.

Fantastic taste, scent, and texture! “Grilled Jidori Momo”

The most famous Miyazaki dish which is good with sake is, definitely, this one.

Jidori Momo Sumibi-yaki” (local chicken legs grilled with charcoal fire).
The chicken on the hot plate made sounds to sharpen my appetite, and the good smell surrounded me.

The chicken was a little chewy, and the rich flavor came out when I chewed it.
It was so delicious that I even didn’t want to have the juice down my throat!

If the chicken was softer, the good part of the chicken would be half.
It was good by itself, but the people in Miyazaki usually eat the chicken with spice such as spicy pepper powder and Yuzu pepper paste.

A cup of Miyazaki’s local sake

I checked the drink menu.
They had 1 Nihonshu, which was “Sentoku” (brewed by Sentoku Shuzo in Miyazaki Prefecture).

The proper name is “Sentoku Junmaishu“.
The color was a little yellow.

The brewery is Sentoku Shuzo which was established in 1903.
It’s in Nobeoka City in the north part of Miyazaki Prefecture.
It’s the only brewery making Nihonshu for drinking in Miyazaki.

As the label says, the rice for the ingredient is “Yamadanishiki” which is good for sake making grown in Miyazaki (Takachiho-cho, Takaharu-cho, and some other areas).
The water used for brewing is the underflow water of Gokase River, which runs from Takachiho and is known as a very clean river.
This sake is really a “local” sake.

In Miyazaki which is the south part of Kyushu Island, “Shochu” (liquor distilled from potatoes, rice, etc) is much more popular than Nihonshu.
However, this sake “Sentoku” is very close to the people in its hometown, Nobeoka area, and the people in the area drinks more Nihonshu.

The sake made by Sentoku is mostly consumed in Nobeoka area, and the rest is sold in Miyazaki.
Therefore, their sake is rarely shipped to outside of Miyazaki.

Let’s see the combination of “local sake” and “local chicken”

Now, how is the combination of the local sake and the local chicken?
I tried the chicken first. The strong scent of charcoal went through my nose first, and then the sweet and rich flavor of the chicken fat spread in my mouth.
The flavor of chicken meat came out more strongly as I chewed, and the spicy pepper powder worked well as an accent.

On the other hand, “Sentoku Junmaishu” was very sharp and clear refreshing my throat, while the first impression of the taste was sweet.
“Sentoku” refreshed my throat which was filled with the chicken’s rich and sweet flavor.

If I had the chicken with more sweet sake, the flavors would remain longer in my mouth.
I like that, but “Sentoku Junmaishu” is better if you prefer the clear after taste.

All foods are Miyazaki-style!

They have various Miyazaki’s local foods including home-cooked dishes.
The most famous one, “Chicken Nanban” (deep fried chicken with special sauce), is Miyazaki’s typical homemade dish which differs depending on the home (chicken breast or leg, the taste of the sauce, etc).

The name of this restaurant’s “Chicken Nanban” is “Mrs. Kazuko’s Chicken Nanban”, which makes it look more local and homely.
An interesting thing is that you can choose the volume of the tartar sauce, chicken, and so on.
In addition, you can separate the sauce and chicken (which is called “Separate” serve), or even you can choose “sauce-free” (well, it’s too sad if you choose “sauce-free”).

The other examples are,

Tempura corns

It was in “Today’s Recommend”.
It was so nice!

I expected it to be like “Kakiage” (a type of tempura, usually tempura of mixed vegetable flakes), but the corns were not “flakes”.
It was deep fried corns which were cut vertically.
It had rich corn fragrance.

The paper mat was interesting because it was a piece of Miyazaki’s local newspapers.

Chicken Tataki

When I visited there on that night, they had special menus of “Hebesu” which is Miyazaki’s special citrus fruit.
I’m a big lover of “Hebesu”, so I was very happy.

Chicken Tataki” was a half grilled chicken which was seasoned with sauce of Hebesu’s juice and the flavored chicken skins.
Because Hebesu has mild sourness and bitterness, the taste of the chicken was very clear and nice.

Ra-Somen

The conclusion was “Ra-Somen” with Hebesu on the top. (“Ra-Somen” is a cold ramen noodles which is famous in Fukuoka. This one is not from Miyazaki!)
It refreshed my mouth after the meal.

You might think that I support Miyazaki too much, but I recommend you Miyazaki’s gourmet very much because there are many fantastic dishes which are not known yet.
If you have a chance, please try “Sentoku” with Miyazaki’s foods!

This is all for today’s report!

It's our great pleasure if this article is helpful for you.
