“Josen Shochikubai” at “Ramen Konto” in Senzoku Dori

Good evening.
Thank you very much for reading this blog.

Today I report a ramen restaurant “Ramen Konto” in Senzoku Dori.

This restaurant is run by a fellow pupil of a Japanese comedian, Hachiro Azuma (father of a TV personality, Takahiro Azuma), and it’s there for over 40 years.
According to information on the internet, Mr. Takahiro Azuma’s parents’ family are the manager now, but any signboards or papers in the restaurant didn’t say such history at all except for letters of “Established in Showa 49 (1974)”.

If they wanted to get many customers, such famous names should have been useful and they could spread around their history. However, they are attractive enough without it, and they should already have many local customers. I received a good impression to see them not just relying on their famous founders and managers.

The inside of the restaurant was like this.

It was a normal tidy ramen restaurant.

On the day, I was looking for a good restaurant which I could have dinner and some drinks before going home after working late until around 10 p.m. I chose this “Ramen Konto” because it seemed that there weren’t many customers as it was almost half passed 11.
I have an image about Izakaya restaurants in Asakusa that they always have many customers of big groups until late. It’s difficult for single visitors like me to go in such places.

Anyway.
I checked the menu to find Nihonshu.

They had one.
It didn’t say the name, so I ordered it for a try.

It was “Josen Shochikubai”. They brought me a dish of bean sprouts together for free.
It was a dry sake, but I could feel some sweetness after as well.
This “Shochikubai” is futsu-shu (normal sake, non-special designation sake), but the aftertaste was clear and nice.

Bean sprouts dish was not enough, so I ordered a bangbang chicken (Chinese chicken dish).
In addition, I also ordered something which I always order at ramen restaurants.

Gyoza!
The grated daikon radish and mustard were with it which is unusual for gyoza.
Gyoza is this restaurant’s famous menu, and according to the internet, many people visit to have this gyoza.
Now, let’s try it.

The outside sheet (dumpling skin) was thin and crispy.
The ingredients inside were mainly cabbage and minced meat. It was very juicy and nice with the juice of meat and cabbage.
I enjoyed these gyoza with,

The grated radish,

And mustard.
I think the impression differs depends on the person. In my case, I prefer the normal way of vinegar soy sauce. However, I found a new thing there that radish paste after gyoza makes the mouth nicely fresh.
The sake “Josen Shochikubai” was also clear and gave me freshness, so the sake taste didn’t disturb gyoza’s flavor. I almost couldn’t stop my chopsticks even with the drink.

I think I put the plate in a wrong way….

And finally, ramen to finish the meal.

The name was “Konto Ramen”.

The noodles tasted good with smooth texture.
The soup was probably “W Soup” (mixing of meat stock and seafood stock) of soy sauce base. The taste of seafood stock was just right and delicious.

The roasted pork (cha-shu) seemed made of back ribs, and it was nicely soft. It matched the soup very well.

An article on the internet said that the most popular menu of this restaurant is fried rice. Indeed, the menu book mentioned that “garlic fried rice” was the No.1.

This restaurant was a nice one with a comfortable atmosphere even for a shy guy like me if the time is late. I’d like to come again and have gyoza and Nihonshu, and garlic fried rice at last next time.

It’s our great pleasure if this article is helpful for you.
