Good evening.
Thank you very much for visiting this blog.
Today I report a restaurant “Roppongi MUN” in Roppongi 1-chome Station.

Lunch in Holiday

A Saturday in June.

On that day, I had to come to the office even though it was holiday because I had a business report of 150 pages to finish up which needed to be handed in on Monday.
My boss planned to come around 3 p.m. because the work didn’t seem that much, but I didn’t think so, so personally planned to come in before lunch time and start around one o’clock after having lunch somewhere.

However, it was not an easy plan for me who usually have only 3 hours sleep on weekdays and wake up late on holidays instead.
I came to the office at 2 p.m. after all.
I was wondering where to have lunch, and I finally decided to try this restaurant thinking that it would be nice to have gorgeous lunch because it was Saturday.

The name is “Roppongi MUN”.
It’s a “Korean Original Meat-Dish restaurant” in Roppongi Grand Plaza.
In easier way, it’s like a bar-style restaurant which serves Korean meat dishes.

There were a bar counter, table seats, and separated rooms at the back.
It was nearly half passed two in the afternoon, so I couldn’t see other customers at all.
I only heard voice of a group visitor’s maybe from separate rooms in the back of the restaurant. The staff guided me to a counter seat.

“Saturday lunch course”

This is the menu.

I chose this restaurant because they had samgyeopsal (Korean grilled pork dish), so I knew what to order at first.
I read the other part of the menu just in case.

I found an attractive menu called “Saturday Lunch Course”.
The course included both samgyeopsal and sundubu (Korean spicy soup), which looked very good value.
I hadn’t used money much since the last payday, so I thought it would be nice to have such gorgeous lunch.
I ordered “Saturday lunch course – A plan” (I gave up B because I didn’t have enough time to have all the dishes.).

When I told my choice to the staff who was a young guy, he explained the details of the course very kindly with a nice smile.
I’m sorry that I didn’t listen to him very carefully……I always don’t listen to this kind of explanations…….

Anyway, the course started. As soon as his explanation finished, appetizers came.

I started with kimchi (Korean pickles) with no reason.

It was hotter than I expected.
My image of Korean kimchi was not so hot and have more other flavor, but this kimchi was just sour and hot.
To settle down the hotness, I had spinach namul (Korean flavored vegetable dish) next.

My tongue was not working because of the spicy kimchi, but the spinach made it better.
The next and the last one was something like nimono (Japanese simmered dish).

Ummmm, I hadn’t had any food like its taste before.
The looking was like Japanese nimono which usually tastes of dashi or soy sauce, but it was sour.
Sour, but not that sour to make face “ >o< “.
It was refreshing sour, and a little bit bitter.

After I tasted it carefully,

I found that it was lemon peel’s bitterness.
This little bitterness made the dish very good as an accent.
After I enjoyed this interesting dish, I looked forward to seeing how the next dish would surprise me.

The next one was like this.

It might be wrong because I didn’t listen to the staff’s explanation very much.
It should be a deep fried flat fish with chili sauce.

The fish had enough flavor without the sauce.
The sauce was a little sweet like Ebi-Chiri (sweet chili shrimp dish), and wasn’t bad with the fish.
The fish was well cooked so I could eat bones too.

Delicious “Samgyeopsal”!

After the appetizers, finally the main dish came.

The sauce and a plate came first.

A lady staff brought a pile of Korean lettuce on the plate.
And now the main!

I was expecting uncut, a big piece of pork meat, but it was cut into pieces on an iron pan like the photo above.
I was surprised a little, but I noticed that this is better because the meat can be kept warm until eaten.
I started the meat.

…Great……yes, samgyeopsal is great.
The pork’s flavor and the fat were just right, and salty taste made the flavor and fat taste even better.
I personally like more salty samgyeopsal, but I understand that restaurants cannot serve dishes with much salt.
This salty meat and rice made me feel very happy.

15-hour working everyday, low salary for the hard work, single life……this meat and salt and rice blew such unhappiness of me away.

Well, samgyeopsal and rice is great, but samgyeopsal and vegetable is also great.
They brought me many Korean lettuces, so I had meat folding with many lettuces.

The trinity of meat, lettuce, and chili miso paste was incredible ( ´∇`)
By the way, you can get more lettuce for free.

Thought of Hospitality

The last is sundubu.

It was served in a heated stone pot, so the soup was boiling.
I became weak at hot things recently.
I had it carefully blowing to make it cooler.

Shrimps, squids, clams, tofu and eggs were in it.
The soup was spicy but also mild, and the flavor of the seafood was nice.
Tofu was broken into small pieces, but it was still hard to be cooler, so I needed to be more careful.

Maybe because of the chili in the soup and the heat of the soup, I was sweating while having this soup.
Then, the breeze of the air conditioner struck my skin, and I could stay comfortable.

I didn’t feel the breeze when I was having meat, but suddenly I noticed it when I started to sweat having the soup.
I understood that the young guy staff was controlling the air conditioner to make me feel comfortable.
This restaurant’s good point is, of course, their good foods, but his hospitality was also a great thing about this restaurant.
He asked me if he could bring the next dish at perfect timing, and he gave instructions to other staffs according to my requests or how I was going.

I told him my impression about his fantastic service when I was checking out.
He said, “I’m just enjoying it”. I was even more impressed that he is enjoying such a great job.

I think that it’s difficult to have hospitality like his for many people, and even if do, it might be just for work.
I think it’s kind of a talent of him to do it naturally.
If the restaurant has nice hospitality, the foods or drinks can taste better, and it makes the customers want to come again.
I thought that this restaurant will be a much more popular restaurant that a shy person like me cannot go alone in near future.
